A Winter's Day in the Garden

Sunday, January 10, 2010

After days of nothing but snowfall in Northeastern Ohio the sun finally came out this morning and after filling up my bird feeding platform I decided to take some pictures of my snow covered shade gardens.

The picture on the left is one of my bird baths. Right now it looks like a mushroom there is so much snow on top of it. The center picture is my garden arch which is the gateway into my gardens, with the sun coming down at an angle, it made the perfect picture. In the Spring and Summer months it is covered with flame honeysuckle and various clematis vines. All my plants are sleeping, tucked in their winter beds, awaiting Spring to arrive once again. The picture on the right is of our ravine. Notice the snow covered stream going through it. There is always fresh water for the birds and animals that live in our 4 acre ravine. This morning the only thing you can hear is the trickle of water from the stream and calls of the many birds that I feed all year long.

Truly a magical moment in time! Even though it is very cold this morning (7 degrees) the winter sun warms the whole snow covered garden scene. It gives us hope that Winter will be over in time and Spring will once again greet the emerging gardens with their many hued shades of green and beautiful flowers.
